Finally getting onto completing the chassis stripping and moving forward on the rebuild.

A bunch of parts (glove box door, trailer connector, part of the convoy light) sandblasted and primed.
The trailer connector installed.
I next thought I take a stab at redoing a switch plate.
I didn't think sandblasting would be a good idea, so I used paint stripper instead.
It came pretty clean although it was still tarnished in places.
I then painted it with gloss black paint and left it for a few days.
A little work carefully scraping the raised letters and the surrounding boarder and it looked good as new.
Here are the repainted light switch, convoy light and ignition switch installed.
Another before and after ... This is before ...
... and this is after.
Time to have a look at the innards of the engine and do a repaint.
The transmission was spray cleaned and painted.
The head was removed to look for any obvious problems with none found.
The head was sandblasted, cleaned and painted.  I then removed the oil pan, timing chain cover, distributor, fuel pump, etc and sandblasted, straigtened painted and reinstalled the covers.
Added the Cuno oil filter bracket and new engine mounts and painted the rest of the engine.
With the rest of the engine painted it seemed a good time to stick it back in the jeep.  I will add the rest of the parts with it installed.
Putting the engine back in was relatively easy.  Leaving the engine mounts loose and using a drift pin to line up the holes helped.
We also had to drop the transmission mount to clear some studs and then reinstall it.  A floor jack helped here quite a bit.
Took a bit of a detour and started getting my newly aquired 19 sets working.  It will be installed in the jeep as it is correct for the year that I have.  To see how I found them check out the
Midwest Military recce report.
