So using the same techniques as before I finished the rest of the floor panels and a bunch of little holes. I finished up the hat channels and painted the inner surface with rust paint being reasonably careful not to put paint where I would be welding. I then positioned the hat channel on the floor and held it roughly in place with clamps.
The little central cutouts left by the spot weld cutter came in handy to accurately locate the repaired channel. I drilled a hole through the center of the channel and the floor to accurately hold the channel in place. I closed up the hole later.
A 2x6 was placed inside the jeep across under the door sills and short pieces of wood were cut to wedge the floor tight against the hat channels.
And then I began to spot weld through the holes.
OK so I haven't gotten any better at taking photo's of my work. I finished the floor using some wedges, and a porta power with a "duckbill" attachment to force the floor against the hat channels. All in all it came out pretty well. I then took some time to do some simple fixes turning this ...
... into this with the judicious use of hammer, dolly, MIG welder and cutting wheel. Not a bad repair if I do say so myself.
I then tackled the next major repair, the right (the tub is upside down in the picture) rear quarter panel. Both the skin and the hat channel are damaged.
Here it is from the inside.
I decided that the best approach was to remove the skin and hat channel as one piece. I carefully marked out the cuts and using a disc cutter removed the section.
Here is the quarter panel with the section removed.
And here is the removed piece. I am thinking about salvaging the first part of it and building from there.
Body Work
With the shop nearing completion and the parts back from the sandblasters it was time to start fixing things. Learning to MIG weld and cut and fit parts is a key actiity. This section follows that work.
